Effect of High Magnetic Field for the Ice/water Interfacial Adsorption of Antifreeze Glycoprotein Molecules

Antifreeze Glycoprotein (AFGP), which is known as a special protein to inhibit the freezing of living organisms under subzero environment, adsorbs at the interface between ice and water and affects the growth rates and growth morphologies of ice crystals. We detected the growth rates of ice crystals are also strongly changed by the effect of high magnetic field. This result indicates that the orientations of AFGP molecules adsorbed at the ice/water interface can be modified by the effect of magnetic field and the high magnetic field is useful for the investigations of the adsorption state of macromolecules.
